Despite the major difference in their personalities, they were appointed by Thomas Jefferson, who was the president at the time, to go on an expedition. Simultaneously Lewis and Clark went on a two thousand mile expedition to find a way to travel west via water because trains were not invented at the time of the westward expansion. Lewis and Clark were chosen for the expedition by Thomas Jefferson because of their knowledge and experience. They went on the expedition to explore and discover a path through the land bought in the Louisiana Purchase in order to travel west. However, Lewis nor Clark could not find a water path fit for boats due to the fact that the Rocky mountains stopped their path. The expansion expanded the borders and gave America more land. It presented the United States with new types of land and elevated the population. The Westward expansion migration led to more important events of American history., some of the important event it led to are the gold rush in California, Texas becoming a United States state, the Mexican American war, and the Battle of Alamo. These four individuals are only a few people who are important or were involved in the westward expansion migration.
