The Americans were justified in declaring independence from Britain because of King George III’s poor leadership. The Declaration of Independence stated,”A prince, whose character is thus marked by every act which may define a tyrant is to be the ruler of people.” (Document E) This validates that King George is a tyrannical ruler, and is an inadequate ruler. According to Document D, Thomas paine wrote, “...Then tell me whether you can hereafter love, honor, and faithfully serve the power that hath carried fire and sword into your land.” This statement proves that it’s impossible to respect somebody who has ruined his own land, and hurt his own people. As you can see, King George III was unjust and unsuitable to rule over the colonies.

John Dickinson wrote, “...That Great Britain may lay duties upon her exportations to us for the purpose of levying money on us only”. (Document B) This affirms that Parliament put taxes on the colonists solely to gain profit. Also, “The Quartering Act forced colonists to provide British troops with living quarters, food, and supplies.” (Document G) This act forced colonists to pay for soldiers who were hurting other colonists (ex. Lexington and Concord). Overall, British parliament forced these taxes and acts upon the colonies, without their consent or representation in English
