Wellness is a part of everyone’s day-to-day lifestyle whether they realize it or not, and should be taken into consideration each day. Wellness is not only the absence of disease but it is a proactive, preventive approach intended to achieve maximum levels of physical, emotional, environmental, financial, intellectual, occupational, social, and spiritual well-being. Having a good balance of each of the eight wellness dimensions can help ensure that one is living a healthy lifestyle. Wellness can also be defined as a process when one becomes aware of choices towards a more successful existence, and takes responsibility to carry out the most beneficial option. Throughout this semester, I have learned how extremely important it is to beware of what is going on with my own body. Being aware of one’s wellness and taking charge of one’s health can assist in living a longer and healthy life. Specific things which I learned in unit one included the three levels of prevention, factors that shape and influence us, and why a good support system is important. Overall, I learned that the three levels of prevention include a primary level, which a person is healthy without signs and symptoms of disease. I found this class very intriguing because everyone needs to know how to help themselves benefit from being able to maintain several dimensions of health and wellness. When looking back on this class, I found that my attitude changed towards working out and it also opened my eyes that wellness isn’t just about being fit. There are many different aspects that go into making a body healthy, and everyone needs to work at improving their wellness not only now but for their future.
