One of the biggest challenges associated with being a solo practitioner or a small-firm lawyer is the inability to attract high value, wealthy clients. For those of us who are solo practitioners or small-firm lawyers, our client base usually consists of low and middle income, blue collar individuals.
There’s nothing wrong with these types of clients, but why not figure out a way to also attract high value, wealthy clients?
The most significant obstacle to attracting high value clients is that they ordinarily only work within their own inner circle of friends, colleagues, and acquaintances. Although it’s not easy to become a part of the circle they belong to, once inside, you can become known and trusted by them. Before long, business will come

The chamber of commerce is simply the key that allows you to open the lock that has secured one of the gates that surrounds the elite members of your community. With a membership to the chamber of commerce, you are allowed to enter the gate and have access to its members.
Once you’re a member of the chamber of commerce, you should select two or more committees that you can add value to and volunteer for those committees. You should then become actively involved in the committees, which will allow you to develop relationships with the other members of the committee. Once they know and trust you, they will start referring their high value colleagues and friends to you.
Although it will take time to develop the connections and relationships with the members of the committees that you participate in, it is well worth the investment of your time and energy.
Another way to utilize this technique for developing relationships within this particular circle of elite members of your community is to encourage or require the associate attorneys who work for you to follow the same process of joining the local chamber of commerce and volunteering to work with some of the
