But when it comes down to it not every grade school is thought of the same, whether it is because of the amount of money the school has in its possession or how much the school receives in fundings or from the state. Each school is different as well as with each teacher. In Lynda Barry´s article she states that with her school she enjoyed it more than her actual house. ¨The only place we could count on being noticed was at school.¨ (Barry, 857) This was because she along with many other students don't have a stable household in which they live. This is because her parents were lower class and did not have enough money to pay bills and were always stressed out. But she could find comfort in school, due to the fact that the teachers were kind and greeted her with open arms and were willing to be there for a child when needed. Whether it's because school is just not for them or if it's because of their location and financial issue. Financial issues are one of the top reasons why people from lower class areas, tend to stay lower class because they do not know any better or because they can't afford to get a better education. Similar to Gerald Graff, the author of ¨Hidden Intellectualism¨, some people can not afford to get a good education. This is also because Graff had to impress the hoods and not show too much interest into school, if he wanted to be accepted by the people he lives around. Graff stated this on page 959, when he said ¨between the need not to jeopardise my respectable future and the need to impress the hoods.¨ Also, school was not for Graff, he was strictly street smart and did not know how to translate the difference between school smarts versus street smarts. This was until he learned that sports were more of his style and that sports helped him build a bridge to gap the difference between the two.
