Water erosion is a natural force that is caused by things like water, ice and wind. This can also happen by human activity. It wears out rocks and soil. Water erosion occurs on streams, rivers banks, sea shores and seaside cliffs. Usually muddy water is a sign of erosion.Usually water erosion happens during rainfalls, snow melts. Runoffs as well because it helps carry away small materials like soil and rocks. There are also more types of erosion like gully erosion and sheet erosion. Sheet erosion is the removal of of soil in thin layers by raindrops and overland flow. Gully erosion is the removal of soil along the drainage lines by surface water runoff. Procedure- First start off by setting up the equipment as shown in the figure on the right side
Get a plastic container (rectangular) and fill with sand on right said to a height of 7 inches.
Add water to the left side of the tub to total 4 inches in height.
Get a foam plate and cut in half, use this to make small waves for 30 seconds.
Record the new height of the sand mound.
Recreate the sand mound to a height of 7 inches. Repeat steps 3-5 increasing the wave intensity each time for a total of 4 …show more content…
There was 4 inches of sand and the time was for 30 seconds, the faster the waves were crashing against the sand, the more sand would erode. Some things that were changed in the procedure were the measurements, they didn’t add up or there was too much sand and hardly any water. If the measurements had not been changed the impact and results wouldn't have been the same and the results wouldn't have made the lab come out as they did.
Conclusions-
Some errors that occurred in this experiment where the measurements, the thought of the size of the bin didn't come to mind so, the measurements were based on a small container. Later in, the other material that wasn’t taken to importance was how many rulers were going to be used. Originally it would have been one but as realized there was gonna be two needed for both sand and water. The materials were adjusted and clarified on how many and exact measurements that would be used. This whole lab was based on seeing how water erosion worked and the impact it had on sea shores, river banks, etc. This would give a visual image of what occurs when the water crashes against them, it also carries out small materials like rocks and
