They idealized women, had interest in folk tradition, frequent use of personification, the use of common language, and the use of common subjects. These are the the characteristics of the Romanticism time period.
Particularly in his work titled “The Legend of Sleepy Hollow”, we can see these characteristics. For example the theme of this story is a story about a guy who was new to the area, and also learned that he wasn't the only one there. Then he goes to a party and got all spooked when they were telling ghost stories, then was followed by a stranger on his way back home. Then he falls in love with a girl and has to find a way to make her love him back.
