This caused the north to oppose in 1866 and the conclusion of the legislature vote was overwhelming of victory of radical republicans. The state government of the south had to let past slaves possess citizenship and even though the south disliked the idea of the constitution of the 14th amendment, they had to agree to it. So, the new government had the tendency of Republicans. For the freed slaves, they were able to put more effort in making their life better and for the union; they were able to give influence to the south government. However, the south conservatives had dissatisfaction with the people who came from the north and disliked the south people who get along with the slaves. People who came from the north were called ‘carpetbaggers’ because they came from the lands to farm. Since the north part of the land is cold, people come to the south where it had massive land and had the best condition (such as weather) for farming. Also, people who cared about the slaves in the south were known as ‘scalawags’. Scalawag established the Freedmen's Bureau to educate the freed slaves but there were people who oppose to this idea and had animosity in them. One of the terror groups was called KKK (Ku Klux Klan), this group has consisted of people who cared about the white supremacy. They thought that blacks should not be equal to white and out of all the races, they think white are superiority. Even though some south people who were called political hoodlums agreed to the law, the conservatives did not admit the new law. Those who disagreed were the people who needed slaves to work for their farmlands and dislike the idea of them treated the same way as the blacks. It could be said that conservatives are the one who caused the reconstruction to fail because they created their own group by gathering people who have the same ideal.
