Jean Moulin was born on June 20, 1899 in south west France. Jean Moulin enlisted in the army in 1918. Although he never saw any action, he later became known as a hero due to his work in the French Resistance during World War II.
After going to college to study law Moulin's was extremely passionate about politics. Due to his passion it was not a surprise when he was arrested by the occupying Gestapo and tortured as a suspected communist in June of 1940. During his time in confinement Moulin tried to commit suicide by cutting his own throat but a guard found him and he was taken to hospital and recovered.
By November 1940 Moulin was completely recovered and the Vichy France government was now run by the Germans, and they ordered all elected
