Jericho experienced many influences that aided his decision to join the Warriors of Distinction. First of all, one of the most important influence was his cousin and one of his best friends, Josh, the main reason why Jericho did join the Warriors of Distinction. During lunch, Jericho, Josh, and Kofi were sitting at their table eating when two warriors approached them. They offered a chance for them to help at the annual toy drive, and Jericho had trouble deciding whether or not he would accept. Arielle answered, “If it makes you happy, then go for it...I gotta admit,... I like being around the Warriors and what they do” (Draper 68). Jericho loved Arielle and tried to talk to her in school, but that never worked. For some reason he could never find the courage to talk to any girl. Jericho hoped to find a way to get her attention by joining the Warriors of Distinction. Surprisingly his plan worked and she started to talk to him and help him with the annual toy drive. Arielle’s opinion on the situation encouraged Jericho to continue on with his pledge because he thought she would want to spend more time with him. Her answer influenced Jericho to form a more definite answer for his near future. Besides Josh, Kofi was Jericho’s best friend, and he would do anything to help Jericho during their ordeal together, and he did when the time came for Jericho to make an important moral decision. The two were assigned to steal ornaments from a store for the orphan Christmas tree, but Jericho’s moral compass almost did not allow him to, until Kofi came up with a deal.
