It took me by surprise when I was walking by a store there happened to be a young man in a ragged united states military uniform sitting on the ground with a coffee can in between his boots.
“Spare change for a soldier?”, Asked the young man. He looked up and asked a woman walking by.
“Oh, you poor dear, All I have is 5 dollars on me”, said the woman with a doleful look on her face.
I happened to be standing roughly ten to thirty feet away from their encounter. My heart began to grow heavy because you could tell that this man was scraping the bottom of the barrel on his luck. It had looked like he had nothing, his boots worn with holes; his toes were exposed to the elements, his military camouflage jacket tattered, and his pants with stains on them. It seemed like he had just come off the fields of battle and sat in front of the grocery store.
As I approached him, I grew weary of him. He was asking me for money, but I didn’t have much on me. I walked passed him, and he looked up from his boots making eye contact with me. “Do you have any spare change for a former soldier …show more content…
War is not fair, there is no doubt about it, lives are lost in vain for the name of diplomatic disagreements. A disagreement that possibly could have been resolved through diplomatic debate and nonviolent actions. For who was left, this young man, encumbered down with all the scares and visions of human’s barbaric actions is left with the challenge of rehabilitating himself. That’s what’s left in the wake of countries “disagreements”. Now I ask you, would you have helped this young man restore his life? After all, if you were in his position wouldn’t you like to have someone give you a helping hand. This has forever left an impression on me that can never be wiped
