Eventually, the child will use his or her creativity and find something to do. If the parent does not let this occur, the child will become less confident and creative. Ultimately, Shell and I both agree a child needs to be able to explore in order to have a creative and independent…
I wrote more on the issue "Why We Hate The Smart Kids" by Grant Penrod. I'm going to argue with the author on this one because I agree with everything he is trying to teach us in this article. For many students in high school or even college, it's the best time for them, most of them only come for the sports or the debate teams. In any high school, there are many different groups like; the jocks, the boring kids, the stoners, and the nerds. Out of all the groups I have said the one that gets the most heat are the nerds.…
Child-initiated activity hands practitioners a very powerful opportunity for learning. To make the most of this, as a practitioner you must: * maintain children's focus - actively using a range of strategies to keep the children engaged and extend their learning - introducing new words, thinking out loud, introducing more complex speech, bringing in new problems, encouraging conflict negotiation, demonstrating or explaining new ways of working towards a solution * offer assistance and support, when needed, so children are successful in following their ideas, even something simple like holding an object while a child works * ensure the learning environment offers a wide range of stimulating open-ended materials, both outdoors and indoors, for…
Nijala Sun is a teacher at Martin Luther King, Jr., High School in New York City. After teaching for several years she wrote the play titled “No Child…” The play is based on Sun 's 15 years of experience as a New York City public school teacher (Gutman). In "No Child" Sun provides social commentary on the “No Child Left Behind Act”. According to the U.S. Department of Education 's the federal NCLB Act was created to help aid disadvantaged students. NCLB Act supports standards-based education reform based on the premise that setting high standards and establishing measurable goals can improve individual outcomes in education (U.S.D.E.).…
The overall theme of the book, Our Kids, by Robert Putnam was how the access to upward mobility has changed for low income and many students in this generation. Putnam does this by using several examples starting with his childhood. I think he has a very valid point, although many have made it out of poverty into successful careers, there are many that have not and have no idea how to make a change. The world was very different back in the 1950 when Putnam grew up and we have since lost that overall sense of community that was so important very present in those days. Although there were major problems present for that generation, the student of the newer generations are dealing with a different world.…
The passages I have just read are about children and how people believe their time is better spent. One is for creative play time and the other is more set towards orginized activities. I believe there should be a mix between the two, not just one in particular; but we'll get to that later in my essay. In the passage "Helping Children Play Creatively" it points out that in todays society children's time is over filled with structured activity. While sports, clubs, and music are all great activities, it does not give the child time to be as creative.…
A child playing all day is a great thing for their development. When they play with other they development their social-emotional skills. When they play with toys that are made for them to learn about something it develops their cognitive skills. When they play with toys that “quizzes” them by making them put certain shapes in the same shape in the bucket, this improves their problem-solving skills. A child playing is a good thing if they are playing with educational toys.…
Letting your child's imagination roam wild is great for the child's health. It allows them to express their freedom and themselves without all the rules they have to fallow on a daily basis, basically they make their own rules. This helps them become more creative when it comes to problem solving ideas. " As children use their…
Play has an automony, independence and agency of how does a playing environment allow children to have a degree of control over their surroundings. It allows children to use their creativity while developing their imagination, dexterity, and physical, cognitive, and emotional strength. Play has an important role for getting a healthy brain development. It is through play that children at a very early age engage and interact in the world around them. Children always make choices about how to play with and how can play with them?…
They need entertainment. Social skills also are developed through play. Although recess quibbles and arguments might exasperate adults, kids are learning vital…
SMART KIDS GO TO TUTORING. Everyone wants to have all A's on their report card, but is it extremely that easy? A teacher named Mr. Jupena believed I could go far in life, so he once told me a short story about his life through high school. He said that through high school, he was an A student, but always took the easy way out, and in his senior year of high school he was failing calculus, and had to go to tutoring.…
Children and Rewards The Article “How Food as a Reward is Detrimental to Children’s Health, Learning and Behavior” written by Alicia Fedewa discussed the effects of using food as a reward on children. The study did not have any experimental tests, but concluded from numerous studies. The article focused on three things: the connection between obesity and negative consequences for students mental and physical health, poor relationships with food, and alternatives to using food as reward in school. The impact of food on physical health is the increased risk of obesity.…

In a study conducted by Hoffman and Russ (2011), researchers found that more advanced pretend play was associated with higher levels of creativity and children with stronger imaginations and more advanced story-telling skills were better at divergent thinking tasks. This shows the important correlation between creativity and free play; through free play, children have the chance to develop these important skills. Play also benefits a child intellectually by motivating excitement towards learning. When learning is fun, it sets a strong foundation for the future…
Teachers can make learning interesting and fun. Keeping students involved and focused is an important art of teaching, if the child is having fun then they will not even realize they are learning and in fact retain much more. By making the choice to get the students involved and making sure that not all lessons feel like a chore educators will find…
