Walmart Living Conditions

Improved Essays
Fish from Walmart are not properly cared for at the store, and the uneducated employees give out the wrong information. I am writing to express deep concern about the living conditions of all the fish in your store, mainly focusing on betta fish. At the store, the betta fish are stored in small containers no bigger than a small tissue box. In my experience, the water is dirty and the fish contained in the bowls are obviously distressed. I have witnessed frighteningly filthy water, with the fish inside slumped at the bottom of the container, dead. It is unacceptable to keep living animals in such repulsive conditions. A few months ago, my family and I purchased a tropical fish from one of your stores. It was a Super Red Turquoise Discus fish.

Recently, Betta splendens, otherwise known as bettas or Siamese fighting fish, have grown into one of the most popular ornamental fish (Monvises et al. 2009). More and more fish enthusiasts are adopting betta fish, meaning the fish are being kept in aquariums away from their evolutionarily fundamental habitats. These fish are originally from rice paddies and swampy areas in Thailand and other Southeast Asia countries (Jaroensutasinee and Jaroensutansinee 2001). Consequently, they have evolved in a manner that allows them to thrive in the swampy, humid environment. Bettas have developed a unique form and function to allow for their persistence in these areas.…

Walmart is not good for America because they don’t treat their workers well, they offshore secondary jobs to china, they destroy other retail businesses who can 't compete with them, and they cause suppliers to lose money and possibly declare bankruptcy because of Walmart 's demand for such low prices. This is described in the article titled Walmart raising Wage to at least 9$ by Hiroko Tabuchi. ”The retail Giant……. said that all of its retail workers would earn at least 9$ an hour by April and 10$ an hour by next February.…
