The first difference I noticed when first going into the jails were that the size difference was very noticeable and different. While Wabash County’s jail was a lot smaller, Miami County’s was bigger. Miami County’s jail was able to hold quite a few more prisoners while since Wabash’s was smaller, they could not do the same. This was nearly a given due to the fact that the Wabash County jail was built in 1979 while the Miami County jail was built in 2009. When entering the Wabash County jail, you had to use force to push or pull the door, while Miami County’s jail had automatic sliding doors to get into the main lobby. Miami’s jail was all computer based everywhere you looked, everything was controlled, operated, and monitored using computers. While on the other hand, with Wabash is being as small as it is, the officers used keys to open every door, although there was still some electronic surveillance. The last substantial difference I noticed was the visiting. When someone comes to visit the inmate in Miami County’s jail, they would pretty much Facetime them from the lobby. While at Wabash, it was done face to face, with only glass separating the two
