Park Ecology: Voyageurs National Park
With the landscape being molded nearly a billion years ago, glaciers have proved to be a prominent impact on the topography of Voyageurs National Park. In addition to forming the rigid layers of the terrain, the glaciers have also helped in the formation of the mosaic-like rocks and minerals that exist in the present-day wildlife sanctuary. Years of snow and rain have also contributed to the erosion of the sediments, thus affecting the geological development of the area. As time passed, an abundance of wildlife and vegetation flourished within the cold climate of the region.

The average high temperatures in the summer is 70ºF to 90ºF. The average low temperatures in the winter is -5ºF to 5ºF. In terms of the park, the lowest temperature that has ever been recorded was a staggering -55ºF. In contrast of the latter, the highest temperature that has ever been recorded was 103ºF. Alongside
weather conditions, the average measure of the annual precipitation that occurs within the park is 24 inches. Surprisingly, weather conditions in Voyageurs National Park are very unpredictable. During the summer, storms can accumulate in a rapid manner, making the terrain very hard to traverse through. Though infrequent, summer temperatures can reach to a blazing 100ºF, but can also reach to a temperature below freezing. Despite the circumstance regarding the climate of the area, the wildlife naturally adjusted to its rugged weather conditions. Dumbfoundingly, there is only one endangered animal within Voyageurs National Park, and that is the gray wolf. Being marked as an endangered species by the Federal Endangered Species Act, Voyageurs National Park has made it one of their top priorities to steadily increase the gray wolf
