A citizen actually defines as one who holds both rights and responsibilities in a state. A citizen must fight for the same cause that the nation does. One of the ways this may be accomplished is by volunteering. Volunteering is when people provide their services to a cause without expecting something in return. This is an act of patriotism and selflessness that, if spread, could make a nation flourish. There are many other reasons people volunteer;from personal benefits to what the Chair of Volunteer Calgary Dan O'Grady describes as a "private

Sara Mosle and Robert Coles are two individuals who become exposed to volunteerism because of specific circumstances yet they also encounter issues of extraordinary mismatch throughout their work. The term “mismatch,” has been applied to biological, psychological and social settings; regardless of the scenario, the outcomes of a mismatch can potentially do more harm than good. Mosle, a middle-aged white woman and journalist residing in a well off neighborhood in New york, becomes a mentor for several children from low-income communities. Coles, a white psychiatrist, pursues an in-depth study of school desegregation through observations of black youth organizations during the Civil Rights era. One civic duty that you should do is volunteer in your community. Every community needs volunteers to complete tasks. For example, volunteering in homeless shelters and animal shelters helps out a lot in your community. I've volunteered in the community by helping in Freedom Park's Haunted Trail. All of the profits we made in the haunted trail went directly to Eden's recreational department to help out kids in the community.…

I am proud to be an American. We are given so many rights and freedoms that we would not be able to have if we lived in other countries or territories. However, with the freedoms and rights given to us there are certain responsibilities as well. As John D. Rockefeller says, “Every right implies a responsibility; every opportunity, an obligation, every possession, a duty.”. In my community, my responsibility is to volunteer and to help others.…

Every single American citizen has a responsibility that stems from what the Constitution grants us. Right now, as a high school student, I have a duty to the Constitution. With the help of my teachers, I am learning the necessary material to become a well informed citizen of the United States. As a citizen, like many other Americans, I will vote in elections, stay updated on the actions of the government, and do everything in my power to benefit my community.…

On December 6,1865,President Lincoln abated slavery stating that all slaves would be freed and no longer be forced to work for no reward. In our own country today, however, many students across the nation are being forced to do just that, work for no reward. In the article “Required Volunteerism;School Program Tested” by Michael Winerip, It shows that in just two schools alone,175 students are at risk of not graduating because they did not give in to the volunteer program. Didn’t we learn from our mistakes; just because we changed the name, doesn’t mean we changed the game! Volunteering is to go out of your way to help others, but this is just doing what’s required, and therefore, the practice of making kids volunteer for a grade should be stopped.…

When discussing the topic of public service by American citizens, many people under the age of 30 are stating that this mandatory public service is unacceptable. On the contrary, a majority of Americans are in favor of a year of mandatory national service for 18-25 year olds. People are still growing and maturing at ages 18-25, so some believe that public service during that age is crucial. With that being said, if serving your community is like a job or unenjoyable to you, I wouldn’t suggest contributing to public service. “Help others and give something back.…

If I had to choose only one activity to continue doing, then I would choose to continue volunteering at Sights and Sounds of Christmas. I would choose to continue volunteering at Sights and Sounds of Christmas for several reasons, one of them being because it is a local event that unifies and brings a lot of joy to my town during the holidays for one weekend Another reason for choosing this is that I always volunteer at the Santa Photobooth which is one of the biggest parts of Sights and Sounds. I say this because it is where families go to bring their children so they can see Santa and tell them what they want which makes them extraordinarily happy which is the whole reason we have Sights and Sounds. Also, I remember when I was a child visiting…

I believe that the United States should require all adults citizens to perform a one year community service by the age of 30, because it can reduce stree, lower blood pressure, and has health benifits. Being able to do community service is also good for the enviorment as well. One of the main reasons why adults should do community service by the time they hit the age of 30 is because if you get streesed out you have something to do. Another reason why;let's say you're working at an animal shelter and you get stressed out you can always take some time with an animal and they'll keep you calm. The third reason why doing community service lowers blood pressure is, because no one really wants to see another angry when they work.…

I do not agree with making national service mandatory for all adults between the ages of 18 and 30 years of age. Although people would be payed enough to cover their basic living expenses while they’re doing mandatory service, and the service could have many positive personal benifits, making community service mandatory is unacceptable for several reasons. First, mandatory volunteer service is a contradiction in terms. How can it be voluntary if it’s mandatory? That just doesn’t make sense.…

Everyday, thousands of high school students immerse themselves in their community and create satisfaction in helping others in need. Community service is a critical aspect of teen development. Without it, students do not realize how much it means to help others, and they do not get the full experience of working with different people. Volunteerism is required in many high schools around the United States, but not all of them. This issue is incredibly controversial because the debate is whether community service actually helps students in the long run.…

Some continue to argue that mandatory volunteerism allows young adults to explore career options and gain work skills. They would be wrong; people cannot earn gain work skills when they are not maximizing their potential doing something they are not interested in. Some may say the constitutionality of mandatory volunteerism by pointing out that Section 2 of the 13th Amendment says “Congress shall have the power to enforce this article by appropriate legislation” (amend XIII, sec 2). Some may try to argue that mandatory community service fulfills the needs of the community.…
