Argumentative Essay: The Role Of Volunteering In Schools

People tend to argue whether volunteering should be induced by schools and businesses. Volunteering, as any type of action, is judged by people and has its own positive and negative sides. In order to be more precise, historical background of volunteering should be taken into consideration. At different decades of the twentieth century, volunteering had its own image. For instance, in 1960s volunteering was considered as one of the ways to reject the energy of young people, whereas in 1970s the focus was put on its utility to social services. In fact, volunteering has a rich history as in medieval times, when no fewer than 500 voluntary hospitals were established in England during the 12th and 13th centuries. Regardless of little negative aspects that may appear, as time commitment, emotion involvement and a sense of frustration, volunteering, in general, affects positively on people’s lives. Therefore, the incentives should be given to both schools and businesses because of the following reasons. Firstly, it is a rewarding activity and will be useful for schools and businesses as it plants in people the seeds of altruism. Secondly, volunteering improves people’s mental and physical health hence the healthier students and employees are, the more productive they will be. Thirdly, volunteering facilitates the development of character traits such as responsibility, determination, solicitude. It will also result in the increased productivity of students and workers, satisfaction. Thus, volunteering is a positive phenomenon and should definitely be induced by schools and
