I plan to read The Giver in a class of 7th graders for at least two weeks (10 days). My intentions for this unit mainly center on working on reading skills, vocabulary expansion, and the development of some critical thinking skills. My objectives specify that the student will be able to define vocabulary, summarize what he/she has read, use his/her pre-established vocabulary words in order to find synonyms for these words and use specification of language, analyze differences in the characters, explain how Jonas' character develops in the book, propose how these differences among characters shape the novel, compose an argument defending whether or not he/she believes Jonas made it to safety in the end or if he didn't make it to safety, support
