He skipped and twirled, his arms swinging randomly in the air. When he reached the corner of his house he stopped skipping and the smile that was on his face seemed to have melted into a horrified expression. His home was in conflagration, spontaneously without thought Vladyslav plunged into the fire. Floor boards crackling and crashing down to the floor spreading a cloud of ash in the air that filled the house consumed by smoke. He payed no attention to his surroundings which resulted in a burning floorboard striking his head. He tumbled down to the ground tears streaming down his cheeks uncontrollably.

“MOMMA! P-P-PAPA!” Stuttered and coughed Vladyslav.

With no response in return, Vladyslav began screaming and begging for his mother and father to make it out alive.

“MOMMA! P- PAPA! RUN! GET OUT OF HERE! I DESERVE TO DIE! N-NOT YOU! KILL ME INSTEAD PLEASE!” Coughed and screamed Vladyslav.

The screaming that came from Vladyslav caused a vibration that triggered numerous floor boards to come crashing down onto him. The floor boards were caught on fire and were so heated that they would cause a third degree

Leo Tolstoy’s story, The Death of Ivan Ilyich, is a story that takes the reader on a journey through a man’s life and death. Life and death are two of the most rewarding and scariest things that we have to face in our lives while on Earth, but what if you are coming close to death and realize that the life you have lived was not true to yourself. Would you want to hold onto it or let it go? Life and death must coexist for us to live a life we are pleased with and our lives on Earth are only for a moment of time. Life is an interesting concept and I believe that Tolstoy’s message for this story is for readers to think about the life they are currently living; he wants us to question our lives and wonder if we are prepared for death.…
