The purpose of this lab is to discover if the theory that the proportions that Vitruvius has set out for us are accurate. This lab will test the theories that Vitruvius has set out. This will also test the measuring skills and mathematical skills of the data taker.
Background Information
Vitruvius’ idea that a lasting idea of beauty could be learned from the 'truth of nature', that nature's designs were based on universal laws of proportion and symmetry. Vitruvius thought that the body's proportions could be used as a model of natural proportional perfection. He wrote of the way ancient philosophers examined many examples of 'well-shaped men' and found that these bodies shared certain proportions. He showed that the 'Perfect' human body contoured exactly into both a circle and a square, and he created a link that he believed existed between perfect geometric forms and the perfect body. In this way, the body was seen as a living …show more content…
Before the graph can be made, it must be decided what is the independent variable and what is the dependent variable. remember that the independent variable always goes along the X axis or the horizontal line and that the dependent variable always goes along the y-axis or, the vertical line on a graph. Where this graph, the x-axis should be labeled with the word “age” and the y-axis should be labeled with the word height, and along those axes; there should be lines that have ages as well as heights. Remember that the lines with the ages on them, go on the x-axis and that the lines with the heights on them; go on the y-axis. Once these heights and ages have been written on their respective lines, proceed to start graphing points. It is recommended to use graphing paper as well as two different colors; one color for adults and one color for teenagers, so that it is easier to differentiate between the adult proportions and the Teen
