Vitamins are essential in an everyday diet. People do not notice that a lot of the foods they consume contain vitamins. Vitamin C needs to be in our bodies because our bodies do not produce them. But, why are vitamin C's so important to have? Believe it or not, vitamin C protects us against scurvy.“Scurvy used to be deadly for sailors and soldiers, who often had to go for long periods without fresh fruit and vegetables” ( Source 2 ). One of the symptoms of scurvy is spongy, bleeding gums. The purpose of vitamin C is to create collagen.
