This week in the field at Vital Connections was slightly moderate. Although slightly moderate, I was offered a great opportunity to attend a Public Service Fair, which was held at Virginia College. During this Fair my supervisor and I shared information about the agency with some of the students that attend Virginia College. Under Competency Skill 1 it states a professional performance “Demonstrates professional demeanor in behavior, appearance, and communication.” In order to fulfill this professional performance, I greeted each individual before explaining Vital Connection’ services, made eye contact, and identified my position under the organization. Competency Skill 1 also states a social …show more content…
This skill states that a professional performance consists of a social worker being able to “Demonstrate the skills necessary for effective policy formulation and interpretation.” Therefore, one of the tasks required to complete this week was for me to complete different online trainings for early child care. For example, one of the trainings was teaching educators how to handle children in care who are HIV positive. This was important because being familiar with these procedures will help in eliminating the possibility for improper care for children who may enter the organization and are HIV positive. In other words, I can help eliminate a problem before it

The issues affects many aspects of the professional, including education, execution of practice and professional management (Claiborn, 1982). Although some research have explored the subject, in particular the meaning and assessment of responsive competence, to date little research has explored factors identified by professionals such as nurses or police, as influencing their own development of professional competence (Khomeiran, Yekta, Kiger, & Ahmadi, 2006). The findings suggest that the factors influencing the process of developing the responsively competent professional encompass the personal and public domains. An understanding of these factors may enhance the ability of competent professionals to enable qualified authorities to pursue effective competency development pathways to prepare them to provide a high standard of management (Gibson, 2003).…

An exercise in class allowed me to understand my own reasoning for helping others as well as what may be my own selfish reasons for seeking this profession. For example, at one point in the exercise, I broke ground into my own self-assessment and found insight that I was partially seeking the profession for money and for my savior complex. I felt that this observation of myself showed that I was overall, functioning normally with both healthy and minimal unhealthy motivations. Another concern that came across my mind is when I have a…

Despite maintaining that self-awareness is a considerable strength of mine, upon my reflections in my journal entry from week 3, I found some limitations within my approach to communicating with the culturally diverse. I have never considered myself as someone who is racist or who is inherently prone to stereotyping, on the contrary I feel that I generally display mindfulness and seek to gain understanding of things (in this case cultures) that I don’t understand. However, despite the possibility of this being seen as another strength, upon attempting to fill out a survey on ‘my views’ within the tutorial, I found myself limited with honest perceptions of popular minorities within Australia, including low income housing tenants and asylum seekers…

There is nothing more important than education. Lifelong Learning is a ‘cradle to grave’ process and each and every member of our society plays an important and integral part in the welfare of our society. Lifelong learning is a self-perpetuating process - the more successful it is, the more successful it. Lifelong learning crosses sectors, promoting learning beyond traditional schooling and throughout adult life (impost-compulsory education). This definition is based on Delors’ (1996) four ‘pillars’ of education for the future.…
