“My sisters…Well, you see, my sisters and I were witnesses of a Marian apparition at our local town of Osnabrück,” Isolde told Virgil. “The local Gestapo unit misconstrued it as being a celestial Weltanschauungskrieg action by occultists within MI6. Four Classes in Four Years Throughout high school, I was “stuck”, per se, in four classes that would change the way I looked at everything around me. Yes, it might sound corny, but eight tables later, twenty four chairs later, and a certificate at the end of my senior year, I finally understood why there classes were so important to me, and in the end, some of the material that I learned in the classes was beneficial and I will continue to use it throughout the rest of my life. In Lytton Strachey’s essay on the life of Florence Nightingale, he uses imagery and diction to tear down the traditional view of the founder of modern nursing science. He then replaces this romanticised view of Nightingale with the historical, less known view of her life. Strachey uses the first paragraph of his essay to describe this romanticised view of Nightingale’s life, of the “saintly, self-sacrificing woman,”, claiming that “the truth was different.”. Strachey follows this by shocking the reader, claiming that Nightingale was possessed by a Demon. This is effective because never would the reader compare the “Lady of the Lamp” with an evil entity such as a Demon.…
