How did Vincent Van Gogh’s art style evolve through the years 1886-1890? Vincent Van Gogh is known for both his paintings and for his troubling life. Many of his paintings can be seen in museums all across the world and he has several famous paintings such as ‘’ The Starry Night’’, ‘’Café Terrace at Night’ ‘Irises’ ‘as well as several others. His work continues to inspire many artists including my self. I’ve always wondered if Van Gogh’s style we all know and admire was always the same or if he had a different style before. Van Gogh’s early career Vincent Van Gogh began his career as an artist in the early 1880s. Being unable to make his own living, keep his friends and be able to start a family Van Gogh turned to art to express his feelings. As an artist Van Gogh tried to show his view on the world unlike other artists who would use art to try and escape from the world. Van Gogh was an aesthetic and emotional artist. He not only expressed himself through a canvass but also through words. Van Gogh sent heartfelt letters to his brother Theo throughout his whole life as an artist; it was through words and paint that he truly illustrated the way he felt. In one of Van Gogh’s first self-portraits titled ‘’Self-Portrait with Pipe’’(1886) shows an image of Van Gogh in a very dark environment with little to no light. It was influenced by the Dutch showing very dark earthy tones of brown, blue, and gray. The self- portrait’s limited dark palette gives it
