It was in 1953 when he made his horror movie debut in the 3D movie hit, The House of Wax, which was one of his most memorable roles. The critics loved the movie and it wasn’t long before classic horror roles became a staple in Price’s career. In the late 50s and 60s Price appeared in dozens of horror films, including the 1950 horror classic The Fly and its sequel, The Return of the Fly. In the 1960s he appeared in several films directed by horror legend Roger Corman, such as The Pit and the Pendulum. Price appeared in many of Poe’s adaptations, as well as The Haunted Palace, The Tomb of Ligeia and The Masque of The Red Death. By this point, he had become extremely well known for the charisma that he put into his horror roles. Even in sillier movies, Price managed to put black comedy into his performances in a way that was very unique to his own persona. In the early 1970’s Price portrayed some of his most memorable roles, one of which was The Theater of Blood. He played an old psychotic (theater actor,) Edward Landheart, a (Shakespearian actor) who went mad after negative reviews and sought revenge on the critics who denied him recognition by recreating with their deaths scenes from Shakespearian plays.
