The victory was all done by Canadian efforts which made other counties like Britain, look at Canada in a different way. Canada at that time was one of the many British colonies but, due to this accomplishment Canadians were no longer seen as just another British colony; they began to be seen as an independent nation, capable of great things. In addition to that, "the victory was a defining event for Canada ,considered by many contemporaries and later scholars to be a significance event in Canada's progress to full independence from Britain". The Battle of Vimy Ridge was that spark that led the Canadians to gain independence from Britain. After seeing the success and sacrifice of the Canadians at Vimy Ridge, Canada got a seat of its own at the conference. Despite Canada being British colony they still had a "separate representation at the conference where the treaty was negotiated, marking an important stage in the gradual movement toward Canadian independence from Great Britain". It was a great honour for Canada to be able to sit separate from Britain rather than under Britain at the Peace Conference. This gesture of sitting alone as an individual continued the spark that led to Canadian independence. As an outcome "of the signing of the Treaty, Canada thus obtained separate representation in the assembly of the League of Nations ". Canada being able to have a separate representation in the assembly meant that Canada was now able to make some, if not all, of its decisions without having British approval. This was all possible because of the many soldiers that fought and succeeded in the Battle of Vimy Ridge that Canada started to be seen as something more than just Britain's shadow. "Not only did Canada get a separate seat at the conference but, Prime Minister Robert Borden fought to give Canada the right to sign the Treaty independently". Robert Borden gave a great speech however, what impacted the decision the most was the fact that Canada deserved recognition for their outstanding efforts and loses
