Visiting Vimy may have been the most surreal experience I had on my 2014 Europe trip. Although I had visited many WWI and WWII memorial sites, Vimy Ridge was one that really resonated with me.
The Canadian National Vimy Memorial is Canada's largest overseas war memorial site; it is located at the highest point of Vimy Ridge in northern France. This monument was created to commemorate the Battle of Vimy that took place during WWI, in which the Canadian Expeditionary Force were killed in battle with an Allied victory.

I feel like I'm suffocating and everything is too close. The tunnels were a nightmare for me. It was wet, humid, dark, super eerie and just not where I wanted to be. I wanted to get out the moment I walked in, but all I could think about were the men that LIVED in these tunnels.
