Direct Victim: The direct victim in the case study is a factory manager who explains that he was shocked and horrified by the mess and damage from the crime. His financial losses were not only the cost of the damages, but also the loss of making money the entire day as the day was spent cleaning up the mess (Crosland, P., & Liebmann, M. 2003). Although the financial needs of the direct victim were not met because the offenders were young children and could not repay it; according to the victim motives for participation in our textbook, the victim’s emotional needs seem to have been met. Some of the needs that were met are holding the offender accountable (the offender took full responsibility for his part in the crime), learning…
In our country, from the beginning of its roots we saw a negative result because of this lack of tolerance against people who were not white, at times when there major social, economic, or political upheavals was taking place in the U.S. It was at these times that some groups would blame recent arriving immigrants or ethnic/religious groups different from their own for the troubles that America was experiencing. As a result, it was not uncommon for racist attitudes do develop against these scapegoats, their perception that their chosen scapegoat was un-American and harbored alien ideas which were a threat to the American way of life. Those threats had to be dealt with even if it meant violating the Constitution or an American’s basic civil rights, as we saw in the current class, the Native American, the stealing of their land, the desecration of their holy areas, the incarceration and murder; in addition to the U.S. government breaking the contracts with the natives when it was beneficial to the white people and later on with Hollywood, portraying the natives as savages in the movies of cowboys and Indians, not as people trying to defend their land from the invading terrorist and in the present time, the government still does not want to give back the sacred land the Native Americans are requesting to be returned to…
While reading this I feel like Black Lives Matters is an appropriate topic to learn nor teach in schools. Some schools receive an update on their book every seven years but in other states, it takes 10 to 12 years. In the back of most history textbooks, you will find the first to the currents presidents of the United States of America. But since most textbooks are not updated, you will not see the previous president which is Presidents Barack Obama. Most of our knowledge comes from our history textbooks.…
Through efforts by victims and their supporters, the re-victimization, due to the criminal justice system was brought to light. Because victims began to turn to other victims for support and guidance, lead to the creation of rape crisis centers, battered woman shelters and many other “change” organizations such as mothers against drunk driving and parents of murdered children. All of the combined efforts of victims and these change groups lead to criminal justice and other government entities to focus and study the concerns and experiences of victims and even witnesses. In 1975 the national organization for crime victim assistance was founded, and through their leadership, the criminal justice system began creating victim assistance programs,…
Both victims and witnesses are important players in international criminal proceedings. Historically, victims were not involved in the criminal justice process. Victim participation has to be limited and restricted in regards to investigation and prosecution. Impact statements now exist in the United States, which grants either immediate victims or victims of the family the ability to speak before the jury, the judge, or the convicted defendant. They are able to express themselves; giving them the opportunity to confront the perpetrator who has drastically impacted their lives.…
During the last few years, there has been a lot of talk about the Black Lives Matter movement, an international activist movement, originating in the African-American community that campaigns against violence and systemic racism toward black people. But in the 21st century, it is difficult to fathom the fact that America is still divided when it comes to racial issues. Many African-American men have been brutally murdered by the police and this has sparked anger and rage in the black community towards police officers that put their lives down every day to protect and serve their communities. President Obama once said during a speech, "The overwhelming majority of police officers do an incredibly hard and dangerous job fairly and professionally.…

Crime against the state is seen as a violation of the rule of law, while crime against people is seen as a violation of human rights, and both conditions lead to the punishment of the offender befitting the crime. In this process of achieving justice, those highly impacted by these wrong actions are often ignored; the battle between the offender and the Crown often makes the victim, a mere spectator. Meanwhile, the Canadian Criminal Justice System is continuing to do its best in addressing the dissatisfaction victims feel towards the authorities. Study of literature shows that although victim rights have come a long way and are continuing to develop further, they are not successful in addressing the concerns of the victim. The article, “Crime…
The small kid was pushed against the middle school lockers by four well-built kids. One of the boys who was holding the small kid’s shirt put his face against the small boy’s face and told him “go back to your messed up country and don’t bomb us again.” They pushed him hard against the lockers again one last time and left. When the other kids were far from earshot, the kid muttered to himself, “I was born here, too, and this is my home.” These kinds of hate crimes happen all over the world to Arabs and Muslims since the New York bombing of 9/11, and these kinds of stories bring up a discussion about hate crimes against Arabs and Muslims.…

As of right now there are some measures put into place, thus the victim’s rights are established in the criminal justice system.…

Victimology Life Style Exposure The life style that the three victims, Byers, Branch and Moore had would have put them in minimal amounts of situations where they would be exposed to victimisation. As eight year old children they would have had School Monday to Friday, where they would have been overseen by a number of adults and be in the company of numerous children. This means that most days of the week and most hours of the day the victims would have had low risk of exposure to criminal behaviour. There is also little evidence to suggest domestic violence in the homes of the victims, as however, there is only Byer’s fathers transcript in the Case Materials (1993)…
