Vet Techs have to be hardworking and dedicated to thrive in their career. It takes patience and good communication skills to deal with pets and their owners. A vet tech always will be assisting the Veterinarian with animals. Other duties would be analyzing the behavior of animal patients, knowing when exams or surgery will take place so they can prepare the animals, and giving first aid and nursing care to animals. In order to figure out what is wrong with an animal, they collect and test lab samples, such as blood, urine, feces, and ear wax. To see if a patient has a broken bone, fracture or abnormal spots on its body, they take and develop X-rays. They also have to give shots, medications or treatments, and collect and maintain patient records (VETERINARY TECHNICIAN JOB DESCRIPTION AND DUTIES, n.d.). As people come and go it is the vet techs responsibility to take care of all the little things (Veterinary Technician Job Description, n.d.). They asks the pet owners many questions about why they are bringing their pet in for a visit. Carefully recording case history, animal weight, temperature, and many other details is also an important part of the job. When vets are examining or treating the patients it is the vet tech responsibility to restrain and stabilize them. This keeps both the veterinarian, and the patient safe.
