function and purpose. They have different morals, ideals, rules, and practices. Each
person, when they turn sixteen, has the chance to decide in which faction they want to
be in, at an activity called the Choosing Ceremony. When they do so, they decide their
identity and what defines them for the rest of their lives.
The protagonist, Beatrice Prior, was born in Abnegation, the selfless faction. As

For example, lawyers come from Candor, teachers come from Erudite,
policemen come from Dauntless, farmers come from Amity, and Abnegation provide
people to hold important government positions. In the real world, each career one
chooses or practices plays a key component in what builds society. Also, by doing this,
people can use their different callings, passions, and talents to practice many different
occupations that contribute to their environment.
These themes are also related to teenagers all over the world. Young people
have to choose a job that is going to decide and shape who they are for the rest of their
lives. Also, they choose such profession based on their personalities, like the teenagers
in the book choose factions based on what they believe in. Such job will have certain
requisites, values, responsibilities, and rules they stand by, like the factions.
Many elements from this book can be seen in our daily lives. It doesn’t
necessarily have to be choosing a job. It can be any decision we make. We are identified
