1. Lecture
During the second lecture of the Contemporary Issues of Vegetarian Diets class, Dr. Sabaté covered the topic of Physical Growth and Developments of Vegetarian Children. The main question of the topic was if vegetarian diets could support an adequate regimen for children and support growth. During the lecture, Dr. Sabaté gave his own personal story about his first child, and how the medical doctors in Spain disagreed with him in terms of raising his child vegetarian. Dr. Sabaté went on explaining how that caused him a great impact and created a desire for him to come to Loma Linda University to study about growth amongst children following a vegetarian diet. During his years doing his research he did three main research.
The first one was comparing Adventist schoolchildren to Public Schoolchildren. Overall, the Adventist School Children consumed less calories, less fat, less protein and more fiber, yet in the …show more content…

The article selected is from Romanian, and it titles, “Vegetarian Diet in Children”. This article is very similar to the assigned article in where it compares and explains that following a vegetarian diet may promote health and decrease chronic diseases at a young age. The author goes on to explain the daily nutrient recommendations of macronutrients and micronutrients and reviews the overall benefits of following a vegetarian diet at a young age.
Moreover, it reviews the anthroposophical life style benefits and the intestinal flora for those who follow a vegetarian diet. One of the main concerns in this article of following a vegetarian diet was that children could suffer from insufficient vitamin A intake. The author made emphasis of beta-carotene rich vegetables daily. Also, the author explained the importance of Vitamin B12, and how even though mushrooms are a good source of this nutrient, they also have a similar structure to vitamin which inhibits the absorption, making vegetarians at great risk for
