It shows several different things. First of all, the athlete doesn’t believe that they can win without resorting to it, they consider that sports are a matter where ethics don’t apply, and that rules don’t apply to them which ruins the game. I say that they ruin the game, because the competition loses its’ reality. It becomes a matter of who can cheat best rather than who can perform best. It also interferes with team spirit, as the focus is not on collaboration, not to mention the possible negative consequences the cheating of one member of a team could have on the others. It also makes teamwork more difficult and tense, as since the focus is only on winning, other aspects don’t matter. Another important aspect of fair play that gets lost is the joy that sports are supposed to bring. Sports offer opportunities, joy, hope, new friendships, and positive emotions that shouldn’t be lost in the search for victory at any cost. In conclusion, I think that ethics in sports are very important. Cheating or deceiving, even in small things that are unethical, makes fair play impossible, and in the process makes sports an unfair situation that loses much of its’ meaning. Fair play makes victory more satisfying, but also indicates that it’s not all about
