Valerie's Room-Personal Narrative

Great Essays
The room was different somehow. Maybe it was the fact that she couldn’t remember much, or that the room seemed to spin. At this point, she had no idea where her phone was. Valerie grasped the side of the couch and slowly sat down. Today felt like it was last year. All she could remember was that wherever she was that night, it was loud and dark. And someone got hurt. She let her eyes shut and she went to sleep.
When she woke up, she realized the couch felt damp. After she sat up, she noticed there was a red stain by her legs. Valerie was definitely surprised. What even happened last night? she thought. Dragging her feet down the hall, she made her way to the bathroom. Looking in the mirror, she was faced with a not so pretty sight. Her makeup

Feeling the breeze, she remembered that it was also nice out last night. Or, at least she thought it was nice out last night. Valerie then suggested they go get some coffee, since they were already out. Sylvia agreed, considering she had a 3-hour drive ahead of her.

They walked in silence. As they walked, Valerie noticed the streets were quiet. Too quiet. She checked her watch. It was 11:30. Normally, there would people out on their porches; doing things like reading or drinking tea. The only sounds she could hear were some birds chirping.
After what seemed like hours, they made it to the sisters’ favorite coffee shop. The owner, who was at the counter, greeted them with a small smile. Carrying 2 mugs to their table, he set them down and paid his respects about her “friend”.
“Who?” she asked her sister.
“Beats me.” said Sylvia, although her expression made it seem like she knew.
Once again, Valerie shrugged it off and sipped her cappuccino. Back in high school, Sylvia was known for being a gossip, so she surprised that she wouldn’t tell her if something was up. She then noticed that Sylvia was staring out the window. Valerie looked to see if anything of interest was there. The only thing worth noticing was that the sun was no longer

By now, her headache was almost gone.
Sylvia gave a slight chuckle, but then she recomposed herself into tired mode. She took a deep breath and said, “I saw Isaac last time I was here.”
That got Valerie’s attention. “What?”
Suddenly, the events of last night were slowly starting to come back. She was pretty sure that Isaac had called, asking if she wanted to get a drink. ‘For old times sake,’ he had said.’It’ll be on the house.’ Knowing that the restaurant wouldn’t want her back, she agreed. Not like she had anything better to do.
Valerie noticed that Sylvia was no longer drinking her chai latte, and her own cappuccino was gone.
“Are we continuing our walk? And since when do you and Isaac talk?”
Putting on her army jacket, Sylvia said, “I never said we talked, Valerie. I just saw him.” As she headed back towards Valerie’s apartment, Sylvia took her by the shoulders and spun her around in the other direction. “What are you doing?” “There’s something you need to see.” Then, they headed towards downtown, where the bar was. This street looked different than it had last night. Considering it was early afternoon, there were not as many people out. In fact, they were the only people

A slate sky hung over the Santa Cruz mountains, loosing a persistent drizzle from swollen, purplish clouds that seemed to bruise the morning. Below, an L-shaped house cut into the steeply inclined corner of Debby Lane and West Park Avenue, its sprawling grounds perched on the rock wall surrounding the property. The front door rested wide on its hinges, framing the red-brick patio and sloping lawn beyond it like a photograph. Inside, Abigail Crawford stood inside the foyer watching the rain fall. The dark orbs of her pupils, filling her wide eyes until little more than a sliver of their color was visible.…
