Good morning, ladies and gentlemen, fellow graduates. First of all I would like to thank the teachers, parent volunteers, and any other person that was not mentioned that has had an impact in our years at St. Albert. Some of you may not have thought of it this way, but elementary school is where most of your year of education will come from. This year would not have been the same without them. Has been filled with so many new experiences and amazing memories, but it seems like it has also gone by so quickly. I feel as if just yesterday, we were just in grade 6 and for some of you kindergarten. Grade 8 is supposed to be the year of new beginnings, leaving for high school.
Michael Dell once said that “the first thing you should do is throw away that store-bought map and begin to draw your own. I am not telling you to forget the last 10 years of your life because those are important. What I am telling you is that the teachers you’ve had and the friends you have made have led you to who you are today. It is your job to use what you have learned in the last 8 years to guide you through your path in high school. Create your own “map” for the future. So, I want to talk about my experience at St Albert. …show more content…
2 years ago, I left my old school and joined St. Albert. A new year with 40 new faces at a new school. Extremely scary. Over 3 years, I’ve joined so many extra-curricular activities and made so many friends. That was not expected for that girl in grade 6. I would never believe that 2 years later, I would be standing in front of you, saying a speech, trying to be the grade 8 valedictorian.
So every so often, Mr. B gives us these quote responses, and asks us to write down what we think they mean. A couple of weeks ago, we got a quote by Lucius Annaeus Seneca. It said “If one does not know to which port one is sailing, no wind is favorable.” Some people might interpret this quote differently but with this quote I see each of us as a boat. You can be a canoe, a rowboat, and a yacht. But every boat travels its own way and hardships such as storms, you might even lose sight of shore. But you will reach the “port”, some people might reach it earlier and some later. As a grade 8 class we have gone on many trips and had a lot of memories. Some that you might not remember as well, like the Christmas concert at Newman and the Ontario Science Center and some that were the highlight of the year like our trip to Claremont and Confirmation. Claremont was the most memorable for me. Our class is generally loud, so I didn't really expect us to get through all the activities as easily as we did. But what I did learn about almost every body is that we like to learn. It might not be the way So, as our last time together as a group I tell you what the angel Gabriel told Mary, don't be afraid. The next 4 years of your life might be something new and different and some people might not know how to deal with these circumstances. If you forget everything I say remember this, "doubt kills more dreams than failure ever
