The residents seem to only think of the positive effects that could come from not having the policy. Most say that it restricts their freedom and that they are adults, but no one thinks of all the negatives that happen when there are not rules set in place. Residents say that they should have the freedom to have whoever they want in their rooms at any given time. Some residents also believe that since this is their home away from home and that they are legally adults, they should not have restrictions. This policy is in place to control and keep the students who live in residence halls safe. The check in process is the number one complaint by VSU students. The method used is slow. Every time someone is checked in, numbers have to be typed in the computers. One solution could be to buy technology that keeps the information stored. Students could swipe their cards when checking in and out a guest. This will make it more convenient and less irritable for the residents. The hours a guest could be checked in could also be extended. Some residents could have relatives come stay and not be checked in before certain hours and then they are not allowed to stay. This leaves the relative with nowhere to stay and also frustrates the resident. Also, the minimum age of sixteen is required for guest to stay overnight. The policy could be changed where the age is lowered or is different for relatives. If someone has a brother or sister under the age of sixteen, they could never come visit without being accompanied by an adult. This solution could make the residents more agreeable towards this policy. Overall, the policy is in place to keep the residents safe, secure, and protected and does not need to be
