4 Customisation of vaginal cone and its quality control measures
4.1 Introduction
Globally one third of the women suffer from pelvic floor dysfunction. Every women experience mild to severe form of pelvic floor dysfunction symptoms at some point of their life. It occurs due to weak pelvic floor muscles which acts a basin for the pelvis and support the pelvic organs. The weakness inevitably occurs during pregnancy, after child birth (normal vaginal delivery and caesarean section) and after menopause. During pregnancy the growing gravid uterus stretches the ligaments and fascia which is considered to be the first level of pelvic floor support gets challenged and the core muscles also gets weaken and separated. This causes the whole weight of the gravid uterus to come over the pelvic floor causes its weakness. This weakness will continue postpartum which needs to be considered. During normal vaginal delivery the structures supporting the pelvic organs gets stretched, fatigued and damaged. In rural areas till today the domiciliary delivery has been practicing by poorly trained midwives. They will make the mother to push hard before the complete dilatation of the cervix. The material such as polypropylene (PP). Polycarbonate, polyethylene terephthalate, High density Polyethylene and silicone were selected based on the literature reviews. Considering the easy availability of the material at affordable cost, flexibility of the material for fabrication, polypropylene was chosen to make outer shell of the vaginal cone. Stainless steel, copper, Brass, Carbide materials were selected for making inner weights of the vaginal cone. Out of these materials stainless steel and copper was selected because of it’s less cost and its high material
