Vaginal Cancer is a very serious disease that should be taken care of as soon as possible.
This is a disease where the cancer cells are formed in the vagina. There is two main cancer which are not very common but are Squamous Cell Carcinoma and Adenocarcinoma. These next two aren’t so much common, vaginal melanoma develops in the melanocytes of your vagina and vaginal sarcoma develops in the tissue cells of the wall of your vagina. Squamous Cell Carcinoma forms in thin and flat cells lining the vagina. This type of cancer spreads slowly and near the vagina, it’s the most common type of vaginal cancer. Stage 0, which is also known as Vaginal Epithelial Neoplasia 3(VAIN 3), the cancer cells are restricted to the top epithelial layer of cells lining the vagina. During Stage 1 the cancer cells went deeper into the tissue layers of the vagina but haven’t spread to beyond the vagina. Stage 2 cancer cells have reached the connective tissue surrounding the vagina. Stage 3 has now spread beyond the vagina to the walls of the pelvis. Stage 4 divides into 2 subcategories: Stage IVA and IVB. With the surgery, you may need to remove the small tumors, removal of the vagina (vaginectomy), removal of the majority of the pelvic organs. Radiation Therapy has two different radiations, external and internal. External Radiation is directed at your pelvis while the internal radiation is radioactive devices placed in your vagina or the surrounding tissue.
