That is quite a lot of money! There will be many challenges to collect vacant home taxes from landowners. Determining if a property is officially vacant will be a struggle along with contacting the homeowner. Based on electricity consumption, there are about 10,800 housing units empty. That is heck load of houses not occupied. The tax rate would be between 0.5-2%. Homeowners should have the right to do whatever they want to their own property.
