In this particular generation the word peculiar is still being determined between compliment or all out insult. Peculiar is not a over used or even common to use amongst people so when using or hearing it I'm quick to wonder what the person intent was for using the word. When people try to be subtle and completely avoid calling someone strange, "special" or odd ; that’s were the rather intriguing word peculiar comes into play.

Among a few additional ones, these two “others” are distinguished and work to dishevel prejudices and common beliefs in the hit MTV series Faking It. The plot of Faking It follows two best friends, Amy and Karma, who desperately desire to be popular though, as freshmen at a large, Texan high school, it is difficult to find a way to distinguish…

In Outliers: The Story of Success, introductory facts are presented in the epilogue, where Gladwell explains to the reader about his family’s heritage. He states how his grandmother, Daisy Nation, was able to provide for and raise her two daughters in Jamaica during the early 1900s. His own family legacy is credible because it shows that he knows how success works, and how it helped his family move through life rather easily. This was all because his grandmother “was the inheritor of a legacy of privilege” (pg. 280), which is one of the main points that Gladwell brings up in his argument. The fact that his relatives lived through this experience is also his relationship to the topic.…

When I think of the term deviance, the words that tend to come across my mind will be strange, inappropriate, and rule breaking. This is because deviance is an explanation for behaviors or actions that breaches social norms, be it for formal breaching or informal breaching of social norms. Thus, it is some sort of rule breaking because deviant behaviors are those that breach the social norms, which is like a rule for the society. Deviance may be action or behaviors that are inappropriate because it deviates from what is appropriate in the society. Besides that, it may appear to be strange as well because it is not what a people will usually do.…

In the book, Outliers: The Story of Success, by Malcolm Gladwell, the author is challenging our views of how people become successful. He is saying that to get to where you want to be you can’t rely solely on hard work or determination. It takes much more than that, something that many of us don’t get; opportunities. If you want to be successful, you need a series of opportunities that present themselves to you at the right time, to put you ahead of everyone else. He proves this idea in chapter two by using the rhetorical appeal of logos and ethos.…

In the Curious Incident, Christopher is shown to be different through his behavior problems, inability to socialize and his odd choices of likings. Mark Haddon’s novel, The Curious incident of the Dog in the Night-time was published in 2003, and was hugely criticized for its inaccurate interpretation on the Asperger’s syndrome, by the people suffering from it if not directly pointed at. However, this was one of Christopher Boone’s, the main character’s, most defining features as it made him unique. This made it difficult to talk to others and interact with them very well, making his investigation on the death of the dog just that more harder and intriguing. Another feature that made him more interesting was his thought process, which was detailed,…
