In the short story, “The Possibility Of Evil” by Shirley Jackson, several ideas were used to explain the story furthermore. One of the symbols is roses. The main character, Miss. Strangeworth, loves her roses. She takes pride of them. The roses symbolizes pride because despite tons of admiration towards the flowers from many different people in the city, she STILL refused to cut and hand them out through generosity. She had those roses throughout many generations back and she acknowledges the fact how beautiful and special they are. She feels massive amounts of pride within them.
