I. Introduction
This research element focuses on the need to motivate clerical staff in a school. The clerical workers play a valuable role within the school setting. It is the clerical workers that actually keep the school operating (e.g. ensuring that classrooms are covered when teachers are not at work, maintaining student’s records, meet deadlines, screen telephone calls for school administrators, listening to the complaints of angry parents, and many other daily tasks). The faculty at these schools expected the clerical workers to solve every problem, complete all work tasks they choose not to do, baby-sit students they do not want in his/her class, take messages and return all phone calls, and deal with the angry parents. All of this has caused the clerical workers to become unmotivated. How can the principal motivate the unmotivated office staff? The principal should consider adopting a motivational building practice into the school. The motivational building practice are: listen to the office staff and respect their opinions; reward according to performance, the principal should be a resource for the office staff, and show the office staff what’s next.
