Unmanned aircraft systems (UAS), more commonly called Unmanned Aerial Vehicles (UAV), or Drones are aircrafts with no pilots on board. They can fly using remote controls or pre-programmed flight plans (UAV Staff). They can be remote controlled for short or long ranges of time (Staff on Friends Committee on National Legislation). UAVs range on sizes from less than a pound to over 40,000 pounds (UAV Staff). Each UAV can stay in the sky for up to seventeen hours. The research and development drones are used for furthering the development in UAVs. Civil and commercial UAVs are specifically designed for civil and commmercial applications.
