CORNERSTONE OVERVIEW
PRIOR KNOWLEDGE (Before the Unit)
The expectation is a deep understanding of what it takes for people or characters to persevere. Students must also be able to identify main ideas and supporting details. Students will have had multiple experiences writing topic sentences details to enhance their writing. In addition, they will have experience using common conventions in their writing. Each of these are covered within the unit.
PLACEMENT WITHIN THE UNIT
This Cornerstone comes at the end of Unit 1. Students will have engaged in multiple reads of texts where characters or people have persevered.

Students will understand a variety of ways that people persevere, in both real life
