This course will provide skills and practices that can be used for any major, as English lays the basic foundations for communicating across information found in all subject areas from math, humanities, social sciences, sciences and liberal arts.
Last semester, I took English 101 with Professor Brown. In the course, we studied texts Lies My Teacher Told Me by James W. Loewen and The People’s U.S. Constitution: Academics and Lawyers Can Go Elsewhere by Brown, Jeffrey P. (the instructor, himself). The writing prompts he assigned were amusing and I really enjoyed my time writing for him. Three things I learned from my English 101 course were: how to use punctuation marks correctly within an essay, not to add too much unnecessary detail rather get to the point right away, and finally, “a house divided against itself cannot stand” as he would always …show more content…
When I read, my best quality is to analyze the text, imagine what the author might be feeling when writing the words and annotate. My greatest strength as a reader is, to absorb the information and apply the learning to future life circumstances. My greatest weakness as a reader is, to skim through important information because of distractions in my head. When I write, my best quality is to take the time to rewrite the paper as much until I feel that the product is finally ready. My greatest strength as a writer is, outlining and planning prior to the start of the task. My greatest weakness is not knowing exactly how to convey certain thoughts into appropriate sentences. I am grateful to be in this class and hope for the
