Understanding Characters
During this learning center the students will use a jenga set labeled with character traits. For each block they pull the students will have to describe one example of the character trait on the block they have chosen. If the tower collapses during the student’s turn they will have to name two character traits describing their partner. Another way this game could be played is for each character trait labeled block they pull the student will have to name a person who demonstrates the character trait. Additionally, the student would give an example of why the think this person demonstrates this character trait.
An additional activity the students could do during this center would include creating a character cut out of themselves or their partner. The students will be provide with a person foldable on the foldable the students will write the character traits that best describe themselves or their partner. This activity will encourage students to think more about the actions they take.

This worksheet has the student’s looking at a scenario and based on what they have read they will identify what they think Sammy and Aiden are doing at the park. In addition, to naming the activity Sammy and Aiden are doing, the students will explain what details helped them come to this conclusion.

Cause and Effect For my learning center on cause and effect the students will using their memory and the book “Comet’s Nine Lives” by Jan Brett to match a cause to an effect or an effect to a cause. This activity is based off of the adventures Comet has while looking for a place to call his home on Nantucket
