An estimated 11.5 million unauthorized immigrants were living in the US in January 2000 through January 2011. According to a Pew Research Center report, in 2012, 5% of illegal immigrants were from Europe. Since 2011, civil war and conflict between the government of Syrian President Bashar al-Assad, Syrian opposition forces, and ISIS, have resulted in more than 200,000 deaths and have caused more than half of the country’s population of 22 million citizens to flee their homes.
