The three government components that make up the U.S. Criminal justice system are law enforcement, the courts and the correctional system. Each component is unique as it will take a person through a process and this is how the three work together. Law enforcement personnel work to enforce the law, prevent crimes and protect the public. There are different levels of law enforcement to include local, state and federal agencies. If a person is arrested by a police officer for breaking the law they will be tried in the court system. The court system is comprised of prosecutors, defense attorneys and judges.
