Tye River Elementary Observation

Improved Essays
Tye River Elementary School is located in Nelson County, Virginia. It is a public elementary school serving children from the grades of preschool through fifth grade. It is conveniently located off of route 29, but it is also placed far enough away from the road that it does not pose as a distraction or threat to the children attending the school. Both the inside and outside architecture is eye pleasing, giving the sense of friendliness to visitors. Overall Tye River Elementary school has created an environment suitable for facilitating a child’s educational and emotional development. My time of observation was early in the school day starting at eight in the morning. Just as in every school in the country Tye River is concerned about the …show more content…
In addition to this teachers must have an ID to reenter the building and guests must be buzzed in by the front desk secretary. After entering the building any guest must sign in with the secretary and state why they were at the school for the day. Another point of safety is the playgrounds. There is a separate playground for the younger kids, this creates a safer, more enjoyable play time for both age groups. I think this creates an overall safe environment where children and teachers can place their focus solely on learning. The school is laid out in a convenient manner with the offices, gym, library, and cafeteria fairly close to one another and not integrated into the class room area of the school. This keeps areas that may provide noise or distraction from interfering with a child’s classroom experience. Also the grades were somewhat separated and grouped together. The younger children's grades are located on the ground floor which is easier then having a young child walk up the stairs multiple times every day to reach the library, cafeteria, or classroom. The ground floor’s hallways were colorfully decorated with the student’s work and the class rooms were active with children moving around (in a purposeful fashion). The children were also talking to one another and seemed to

This is a calculated number based on the responses from staff members on the readiness for implantation of a PBSS. According to Knoff, H. (2012), its staff is essential when planning, executing, maintaining, and sustaining a PBSS initiative. Motivating the staff to buy in to a new PBSS and implanting it is important to its success.…

What- For over a century, an ethnographic method known as ‘participant observation’ has been an essential tool utilised in various anthropological and sociological disciplines in order to collect important qualitative research about people, their activities, and their cultures. Schensul, Schensul, and Lecompte (1999) define participant observation, the prime method used by anthropologists when doing fieldwork, as "the process of learning through exposure to or involvement in the day-to-day or routine activities of participants…

In many schools, trespassers are a problem and can be difficult to identify in a large school setting. An elementary principal states “If I see some shenanigans in our parking lot with no uniform. I don’t know if they’re our kids. There is the library section, the office section, the pre-school-2nd grade section, the 3rd-6th-grade section, the music/art and computer section, the cafeteria section and the restroom area. It surprised me to see how open the school area is because it does not resemble an American school building at all. The school buildings are run down and the restroom area is very small. But the classrooms are full of color and life. When I walked into Mrs. Alba’s classroom (where I stayed for my field experience), I noticed that the classroom resembled the size of my bedroom at home.…

Since I am in the primary/junior program of Concurrent Education, I have been placed in a grade one classroom which I am very pleased with.
