All throughout American history, the United States has been split into a two-party political system. A two-party political system is pretty self-explanatory. In a two-party political system, two major political parties dominate the government. The first two-party system in America was the Federalists, created by Alexander Hamilton, and the Democratic-Republicans, created by Thomas Jefferson. Currently, America has the republican party and the democratic party Both parties want America to thrive, but they show it different ways. Those people believe that having more than one party can lead to a split in society and can shift the nation as a whole. This is certainly not the case. Having two parties allows the nation to express different views on different issues in different ways. For example, a hot topic is society today is abortion. Each of the two parties have differing views on how to handle abortion. The Republican platform states that they believe that an unborned baby has the same right to life as any other borned human. The Democratic platform states that they believe that a woman should have the right to her body and to do as she wishes. Most of each political view point add up throughout all of a party's planks. Republicans are more for the independent man whereas the democrats are more for stronger government and equality to everybody, even the less working. If you don’t agree with either one of the two major political parties, it is ok. You are not required to be one or the other with no in between. They are independent parties outside of the two major parties. Also, having only one party brings up a lot of issues. You are pretty much limited to what that one party believes and there is no ifs, ands, or buts about it. For example, Cuba has a one-party system, so you may be allowed to vote, but you can only vote for that one party, making it pretty much a
