Tuesday With Morrie

The purpose of this paper I will describe my initial reaction to the story, respond to four questions pertaining to touch and intimacy, give my interpretation of a spiritual journey with examples and give an analysis to two quotes from the movie Tuesday with Morrie
Initial Reaction I have to admit, I had a sigh of relief and actually looked forward to having a different approach with my writing assignment for the week. Initially, although I welcomed the different approach, I was less than enthused to have to sit and watch eleven movie clips on a film that was once a required book reading from high school for me. I had no idea that I was about to explore a plethora of emotions, inspirations, and self-examination that filled me intensely

In a moment, our lives are changed and what we thought was important, is no longer a priority. We then immediately recognize that the things we were doing for ourselves have no purpose or meaning. Morrie mentions that we should devote yourself to the community and in becoming creative and more loving with the people in and around our lives. I agree wholeheartedly and have witnessed this kind of love first hand. I had the honor to go on a medical mission trip. They had nothing. The love and support that they gave to each other moved me so deeply and taught me that materialistic things or having enough money truly does not bring peace to our souls. It is the caring compassionate love that we give and received from one another that brings fulfillment and satisfaction within.

Conclusion
Tuesday with Morrie resonates with so many people because the story connects with real life. We all love to have our hand held or feel a warm hug. A simple nurturing touch to the elderly will convey a message that strengthens a relationship when there is a loss for words. Touch is a language of its own with the ability to communicate nonverbally, we unconsciously know how to use it and when used accordingly can provoke a multitude of communicated emotions to run through our

When I walk past someone that is physically and mentally different than myself, I assume and judge; but my assumption is not always right because I haven’t been in their shoes to where I can completely fathom their situation. People tend to evaluate others harshly when they don’t know them personally. In “The Cathedral” by Raymond Carver, the husband has a hard time understanding the relationship between the wife and the blind man, Robert. Throughout the story, Carver shows us that assumptions interfere with the overall impression of a person and that audible communication increases understanding by using literary devices and elements of character. Carver gives the husband a straight but, aggravated tone which characterizes him as pessimistic…

I promptly responded, Suddenly I realized that all my pages and pages regarding the evils of Satan were virtually lacking of what ‘I really wanted to relate;’ by my words I realized my “true desire” transpired as being deliberately vague. This factual bombshell exploded within my being, along with the amazing issue of how unnerved I had become. Unlike the bold encounter I previously mentioned with my Aunt Lucy May regarding this subject, I found the experience of conversing with an unfamiliar man concerning my Godly sexual beliefs, distressed me as much as if Billy Graham was rummaging through my panty drawer needing answers about my “unmentionables.”…

This week’s reading is basically about the ordinary affects, the term that we may hear before but not really pay attention to. The reading is very interesting that is composed by different vignettes. Many vignettes are the ordinary everyday life and very familiar for me but I have never thought differently. Author Kathleen Stewart is trying to use different vignettes to show how we can think deeply of ordinary everyday life and shift our practical knowledges of intimate experiences. Stewart thinks that ordinary affects can affect the everyday life and gives it the quality of a continual motion of relations, scenes, contingencies and emergences.…

According to Saint Lucian poet Derek Walcott, “The discontent that lies in the human condition is not satisfied simply by material things.” Throughout history it has been proven time and time again, that those who rely on material objects such as money, stature, and fortune, often find themselves in a place of dissatisfaction, and envy. These negative feelings occur for no good reason other than the fact that “material things” are just “things”, and have no real meaning or purpose. Concepts like meaningful relationships and empathy, two ideas that are needed to lead a happy and in some cases moral life, are concepts that people who focus solely on status, and riches often fail to understand. The idea of what happens when one has an intense…

The sociological imagination is something that each human being obtains as we experience life. Whether or not we have a well-developed sociological imagination depends on if we take the time to ask meaningful questions about society. Refusing to accept simplistic answers to the questions that we pose for ourselves, regarding human beings and the world that we inhabit, is the main way to develop these inherent elements into a true sociological imagination. While reading Tuesdays with Morrie, I quickly jumped to the conclusion that Morrie would immediately give up after being diagnosed with a devastating disease.…

The topic of this essay is going to talk about how love is important and how it is consistent after someone is gone. The main purpose of the essay is coming from the book Tuesdays with Morrie from the author Mitch Albom. I am going to determine what Morrie ( which is one of the main characters from the book ) means by “love is how you stay alive, even after you're long gone.” I will now begin to explain what I think Morrie means by this. Love is a very important thing to mostly everyone around the world and in the book Tuesdays with Morrie how Mitch and Morrie care for each other because they love each other is a great example.…

This week I discovered the collection of poems entitled Song of Solomon and was reintroduced to a chapter in the new testament of the christian bible called Corinthians. Following carefully reading each text, I started to make connections to my own personal experiences, relate certain aspects to contemporary media and associate them with other material from my courses.…

“There’s More to Life Than Being Happy” is a journal article that was written by Emily Esfahani Smith. It was published on January 9, 2013. Its purpose is simply to explain to the audience that, ‘It is the very pursuit of happiness that thwarts happiness’ (Smith 2013). I very much enjoyed this journal article because after reading it I felt that I had actually connected to it. For example, a big topic that she focused on while writing this article, was that being happy dealt with “taking”, while living a meaningful life, dealt with “giving” (Smith 2013).…
